Wisdom Teeth Extractions in Dianella
Wisdom tooth removal is a common procedure among young adults. It is typically recommended when the tooth is impacted—it does not fully come through the gums, comes through at an angle, or causes crowding in the mouth. Extraction may also be recommended if there is an increased risk of infection, pain or discomfort.
Also known as the third molar, these are the last teeth to push through the gums, usually erupting between the ages of 17-24. Some do not come through fully and get stuck, causing other teeth to move and become difficult to clean.

Why Is Extraction Necessary?
If you experience any of the issues listed below, we recommend you come to our practice for a consultation. After our dentist assesses the condition of your teeth and gums, they will go over what they found and present options for treatment, if necessary.
Symptoms include:
- Pain
- Gum infections
- Chronic bad breath (Halitosis)
- Decay (of the wisdom tooth or neighbouring teeth)
- Ulcers
- Excessive growth
- Difficulty opening and closing the mouth (Trismus)
What to Expect
At Grand Promenade Dental Centre, the removal is usually done under a local anaesthetic. Depending on the circumstances and the patient’s level of anxiety, full sedation is often the best decision.
After the surgery is complete, you will need to rest for a few days and take any prescribed medications. During this time, you may experience some pain and swelling, as well as bleeding around the area where the wisdom teeth were removed. Our office will check on you to ensure that you are healing properly.
In addition to recovery care, you will receive guidance on how to maintain good oral hygiene during the healing process. This includes brushing and flossing regularly, limiting hard foods, and avoiding alcoholic beverages. It is important to follow the instructions provided by your dentist to reduce the risk of infection after surgery.
